Important fire safety notice for all VŠE dormitory residents

Fire safety is a shared responsibility, and following established rules is essential for keeping our dormitories safe for everyone. Recent inspections have revealed several issues that significantly increase the risk of fire and endanger both residents and emergency responders.

Why these rules matter

  • Charging e-bikes, e-scooters, or other large lithium-ion batteries in student rooms is strictly prohibited. These batteries can overheat or ignite, especially during long or unattended charging.
  • Hallways and stairwells must remain completely clear. Items such as drying racks, doormats, shoe cabinets, boxes, or any other personal belongings cannot be stored in these areas.
These spaces serve as protected escape routes and must remain unobstructed at all times.
  • When cooking, do not leave food unattended – this is a common cause of fire alarms.
  • The use of open fire in any form is prohibited in the dormitories (e.g., lighting scented candles, etc).

What do we do to maintain safety

  • Regular EPS (Fire Alarm System) inspections are carried out.
  • Electrical system inspections of the building are conducted in accordance with regulations.
  • Room electrical devices are revised and checked to ensure compliance and prevent hazardous situations before they arise.

When rules are ignored

A recent fire at the Větrník dormitory in Prague, where dozens of students had to be evacuated, and several were rescued by firefighters, shows how quickly things can go wrong when safety measures are not respected. Follow the rules in the Dormitory Rules.

Thank you

We appreciate all residents who follow the rules and help maintain a safe living environment. Your cooperation ensures that our dormitories remain secure, comfortable, and prepared for emergencies.

Together, we keep VŠE dormitories safe.
